What’s Worth Streaming: Here’s everything coming to Netflix in December 2022 — and what’s leaving

Netflix’s stocking is stuffed to overflowing in December, including a crop of Oscar-contending movies and the return of some fan-favorite series.

Following a weeklong “sneak preview” theatrical release in November, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” will start streaming on Netflix

on Dec. 23. The sequel to writer/director Rian Johnson’s surprise 2019 hit once again stars Daniel Craig as Southern gentleman detective Benoit Blanc, with a cast that includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kate Hudson and Leslie Odom Jr. The Agatha Christie-style murder mystery is getting rave reviews from critics and should be a treat for streaming viewers this holiday season.

Netflix has more major movies on tap: “White Noise” (Dec. 30), director Noah Baumbach’s adaptation of Don DeLillo’s classic 1980s novel about a family whose suburban life is upended by a toxic chemical spill, starring Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig and Don Cheadle in what should be a prime contender come awards season; “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” (Dec. 9), a stop-motion animation adaptation from the Oscar-winning filmmaker, who adds his trademark creepiness and emotional weight to Disney’s classic story; and “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” (Dec. 2), a romantic drama starring Emma Corrin and Jack O’Connell and based on D.H. Lawrence once-scandalous novel.

On the series side of things, Netflix has Season 2, Part 1 of “Firefly Lane,” the friendship drama starring Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke; Part 2 of the crime drama “Money Heist: Korea” (Dec. 9); Season 2 of the documentary series “Last Chance U: Basketball” (Dec. 9); Season 3 of the rom-com “Emily in Paris” (Dec. 21); “The Witcher: Blood Origin” (Dec. 25), a prequel to the hit fantasy series, starring Michelle Yeoh; and new seasons of the dating series “Too Hot to Handle” (Dec. 7) and “The Circle” (Dec. 28).

There’s also “Matilda: The Musical” (Dec. 25), a musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic story; “My Next Guest with David Letterman and Volodymyr Zelensky” (TBA), as the late-night host travels to Ukraine and interviews the Ukrainian president; “Sr.” (Dec. 2), Robert Downey Jr.’s documentary tribute to his father; and “Who Killed Santa? A Murderville Mystery” (Dec. 15), a special edition of the improv murder-mystery series starring Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Maya Rudolph.

And heads up: Season 1 of the Australian reality show “Instant Hotel” is leaving Dec. 27 — it’s an oddball, sometimes infuriating but completely entertaining show worth watching before it’s gone.

Here’s the complete list of what’s coming and going, as of Nov. 22 (release dates are subject to change):
